Tour The Little White House

Please keep in mind that this page, as well as the house, is very much under construction. It's going on line so you know that I'm working on it... But I'll keep editing it and improving it every weekend or so. And maybe, there will be one day when I'll remove those blue lines!!!

Hello!

Welcome to The Little White House, an old stone fisherman's cottage located in Brittany.

It has seen better days, but I'm commited to reveal its inner charm one project at a time.

Come inside that 1940's veranda. All the old houses around here had a porch like that one at the time. The Little White House still has it in all its glory. I have plans for that porch, but clearly, this is not a priority as you'll understand once you've stepped in. And please wipe your feet, as the floor is the main improvment I've done so far!

Here you are in the living-room where is also my home office.

The living-room as it is today, still an unpainted work in progress... But a little improved...

To the left when you came in are the dining-room (it used to be a bedroom, obviously)

and the kitchen.

The kitchen is very much my next project... but it will take time and several phases...

The kitchen newly painted in a light seaglass shade - April 2014

The kitchen cabinets are finally there! Progress December 2014.

Now, will you follow me upstairs?

There is a small landing with four doors to:

  • the spare bedroom;

  • the bathroom;

  • my bedroom;

  • the loo: it might seem weird that it is the only completed project... But as I had never held a paint brush nor glued any wallpaper before buying this house, I thought it was safer to try my hand in a small room... Just in case I really messed it!

Everything is still going through renovation before being redecorated...

Please come back to check the progress or suscribe by email to get the news directly delivered to you!

  1. So charming! I wouldn't do a thing to that front porch other than the repairs to save it and paint. It's beautiful.

    1. I'm not planning on getting rid of the porch... But water is coming in from everywhere: the floor, the broken window panes and the roof!!! I have plans to redo it!

  9. C'est vrai que lorsque on a connu la maison avant et après, le changement est de taille. Cette maison a enfin une âme ou plus exactement, retrouve son âme.

  10. Okay, I totally love your disclaimer, "Previous Owner Decoration." Wait, what?? You didn't put those horse heads on the door?? Well, at least there's not a horse head in the bed, au Godfather!!

  19. The transformation so far is simply inspiring, Magali. I love it all, that seaglass paint in the kitchen, and the fact that you have preserved your timeless wood furniture in its beautiful warm tones vs painting everything but the groceries in white (typical beach cottage fad these days). This look is EXACTLY what my husband and I are going for in our dream seaside cottage. I hope to share that dream come true with you some day...and come to you for tips. :)

  21. We love your Little White House! Jeannie especially loves fixing up older homes. What you've done so far looks beautiful! The color of your kitchen is perfect. The cabinets look great and I love the beams on the ceiling! You are so blessed to live in a cottage with history. We can't wait to see the progress you make. Move slowly and enjoy your home.

  22. I live in the pacific nw area of USA. I had to have a new roof this yr. I wanted an overhang by our front door $10,000 I got several bids. So I kept my dream porch picture to look at :)

  23. I think, perhaps, I've finally found someone who can understand when I say that the French have very, um, interesting taste. My living/dining area has exactly four different colours painted on the walls -- and the line between the dark red living area and the Mediterrenean stucco beigish isn't even straight! I'm still wondering how to remove the stucco junk off the walls. Then the wood floor the previous owner put down doesn't even reach the walls. I'm wondering what's under there. I'm afraid it's just like your dining nook disaster.

    1. I don't know if it's every French owner that has the weird taste of our previous owners... But it sounds like our two houses could be sisters (or brothers?)! Good luck with your renovation... And if you ever stop by again, please give me your email address, I think we should meet some day!
